At Ponte Portugal, we guide people through every stage of their relocation journey, from obtaining a NIF and opening a Portuguese bank account to residency applications and settling into everyday life. But there’s one part of relocation that’s just as important as all the practical arrangements: the language.

Many Portuguese people speak English, and that’s often enough to get by. But feeling at home in Portugal isn’t about getting by. It’s about chatting with your neighbours, talking to other parents at school, explaining your symptoms at the pharmacy, or calling the plumber.

That’s why we’ve created these courses: not to teach Portuguese for the sake of learning a language, but to help you confidently build your life in Portugal.

Your First Conversations in Portuguese

Start speaking Portuguese from day one.

For people who are moving to Portugal or have recently arrived. Learn the Portuguese you actually need, from ordering a coffee to asking for help at the pharmacy.

For people with basic Portuguese who want to use it with confidence. You know the words, but natural conversations still feel difficult. This course helps your Portuguese catch up with your life in Portugal.

Meet your teacher

Professional teaching, with real relocation experience.

The courses are taught by Joana, a native European Portuguese teacher with many years of experience teaching Portuguese to foreigners. Having built her own life in Norway, she understands what it is like to move abroad, learn a new language and adapt to a different culture.

Together with Liesbeth, founder of Ponte Portugal, who made the same journey from the Netherlands to Portugal, she has developed these courses around the real experiences expats face every day.

One shared goal: helping people feel at home in Portugal.

Which course is right for me?

Your First Conversations is for newcomers with little or no Portuguese. Confident Conversations is for people who know the basics and want to speak more confidently. Email us if you would like help choosing.

Is this European Portuguese?

Yes. All lessons focus on European Portuguese, the language spoken throughout Portugal.

How many participants are in each group?

Groups are intentionally kept small: a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 participants.

How are the lessons taught?

All lessons are taught live online. Explanations are given in English while you practise speaking European Portuguese.

Do I need to buy a textbook?

No. Your workbook and all course materials are included in the course fee.

How do I register?
